About

What: This blog will record our three and a half week RV trip through the country of New Zealand from the city of Auckland in the North Island, through Cooks Strait and ending on the South Island in the waters and mountains of Milford Sound. We have planned to encounter beaches, mountains, rain forests, wildlife, long walks, rides on boats large and small, tea, treats, interesting people and who-know-what adventures along the way!

Who: If you are reading this blog, you likely already know all about us!

Why New Zealand?: Mike’s birthday is on December 20th which for us is the second darkest day of the year. For once in his lifetime he wants to celebrate his birthday where there is plenty of daylight! All our research shows New Zealand to be a friendly country with stunning scenery. And of course, it being part of the British Commonwealth with English speakers, is a real plus.

Why an RV? By having our food, drink, bedding, clothes, and everything we need with us all the time, we can make our own schedule and eliminate a lot of stress. (I mean, it’s so nice to immediately make oneself a cup of tea after a long hike and then take a nap, right?) We’ve RV’d just once before and loved it. RVing is very popular in New Zealand with an abundance rental and campsite options.

Why a blog? It’s simple: communication. With such a large time difference between New Zealand and the homes of our family and friends, we thought this would be the perfect way to keep in touch with all of you.

And Finally: We’re so glad that you have chosen to follow along!
