Lyme Regis to Heathrow to home: back to summer.

8 July 2024

Breakfast at the Bay Point Inn was more American than British. And that was OK. Because it was time to go home. Checked out and walked to the car in more pouring rain. Drove out of Devonshire (by which I mean county. Not to be confused with The Duke of Devonshire, who resides in Derbyshire. Get it? Neither do I).

We returned our car, checked into our flight and found some lunch. Mike admired the t shirt of a fellow traveler. It said “Aotearoa”. He walked up to the man “That is the t shirt I looked all over New Zealand for!”. We got talking to James and told him how much we dearly loved his country. He lives up north of Auckland. We’ll be visiting there in 2 years, we said. James, if you are reading this, let’s keep in touch!

United Airlines did indeed prove they are the friendly skies this trip. Perfect blue sky above layers of clouds in every shape. The discs of several sub-tropical storms were forming. As a weather watcher it was pretty neat. But I was glad to be safe above those storms.

Landing in Newark I felt the hot humidity I had been craving while, just hours beforehand, snuggled into my Cornish wool poncho. Ahh. I am a Jersey girl.

Ben kindly battled the insane terminal traffic to pick us up. He is a pal!

And here we are. Working in our one air conditioned room with the heat at 100 degrees (that’s 37 for you Celsius folks). Back to work, to sailing, to cooking, to my 4H club’s production of Tangled and an upcoming week of helping to run our county fair, to catching up with old friends, to a weekend wedding in Pennsylvania and to England making it to the final of the Euro Cup!

It was a good trip in a country we love very, very much.

But we still have one more post for you…….
